After receiving an e-mail form one of my students regarding “Should someone write their own Solo Ads or outsource the same to the Solo Ad provider”.

After receiving the e-mail, I started searching on the internet. And guess what…I found a video of none than Daegan Smith on the same topic. Trying to take a leaf out of his book. Let me answer the question below:
A marketer should write his own Solo Ads. Absolutely”Yes”. The reasons are noted below -
While doing “fixed cost advertising” the most important aspect becomes the cost and that becomes even more important when someone is using direct response marketing like Solo Ads. Therefore, the more control we can have over the Solo Ads the better it is.
At most we can control 3 things in a Solo Ad – the subject line, the ad body and the landing page. So one should write and control these 3 things themselves. No point in leaving it to someone else who does not have any idea on your product, compensation plan and sales funnel. Hope this would help to answer your question mate…

Compare Sites: Often we have multiple sites in mind to post the banner ads. There is a comparison chart (see picture below) in alexa to help you take an informed decision. As you are spending money for these banner ads, so you need to be double sure before taking a decision.




Secret Weapon: This is master stroke. A strategy which I have personally used and it has always worked for me. Choose the site where you are going to place the banners and monitor it over one month’s time period. If you see those same banners are still there over that period of time; meaning they are probably making good ROI, that’s why they are there. So, it’s a place to go ahead.

Track like a master: One can copy the big marketer’s traffic source by going to sites like compete.com, whatrunswhere.com. These sites given you in-depth analysis of the traffic sources of any web-sites out there. Giving you an evident where they are placing their banners.

Start small then scale up: Remember, advertising is all about data, analysis and tests. It is advisable to test with a smaller size banner or lesser value banner ad in a particular site, and then scale up if it works.

Rome Was Not Built in a Day

Rome was not build in one day. Such an overused but underutilized phrase of our lives. Nothing in life can be achieved without commitment and consistency. Let’s take the example of a doctor. A doctor goes through 5 years of medical course, followed by internship of 1 year and then the specialization in order to become a doctor. There is no process to shorten this learning curve.

The gestation period for giving birth of a child is ten months and ten days. There can’t be any short cut to this process.

Then why people become so much impatient while starting to make money online. What they forget is the learning curve. People starting to make money online compare their check, their list size to that of the people who are already here in this industry as decision makers. It is good to be inspired by them but unfair to compare with them at this stage.  You can’t compare the knowledge base of a class 10 student to that of a class 1 student. It’s unnatural and unfair at the same time.

A caterpillar has to break through the cocoon to become a butterfly. Today whatever one is doing in their lives be it your job or business they had to go through technical education or expertise to be in that position today.

The only advantage which an online marketer has compared to a person who is taking a technical education is that he or she can still make some decent amount of money from first month itself. But still one has to go through the natural progression of learning until it becomes the geometric progression of growth. The big numbers will come, the big checks will arrive. But first one has to take one stoke a time in order to draw the beautiful painting of making one’s dream come true through this industry.

Having the right mindset: Right mindset is the most important trait and everything else revolves around this. If one does not have the right mindset everything else just falls apart. Now the question is “How to develop the right mindset”. Well, it always comes from the association. Right mindset is derived from reading books, listening to engaging audio, watching video and being in the right kind of association.

Successful marketers do one thing at a time: Successful marketers do one thing at a time and unsuccessful marketers do all things a time. In order to become successful online we need to choose our core area and focus.

Successful marketers face the hurdles: One of the traits of successful online marketers is to face the challenge and overcome it instead of running away and weeping about it. The challenge can be technical or from marketing point of view. One of my biggest challenges was to create my own sales funnel as I am not tech savvy but I had to do it. Period.

Successful marketers listens more than they speak: That’s probably why GOD has given 2 ears and 1 mouth. While speaking we can speak only which we already know but by listening we can enhance our knowledge.

Always Edify others: People always want to work with other people who make them feel good. Edify people without having ego in between.

Be a giver, not a mere receiver: In the initial stage of marketing the focus always remains “Sales”. Shift your focus from being a receiver to a giver. Create the value around yourself and the rest will happen automatically.

Successful marketers never procrastinate: Money loves speed. Cool quote right. When one have a idea it is of no use until that idea is put into action. Because taking faster action on an idea will help one to make money online.

Track anything of significance: Advertising costs money. So, track everything of significance and track it to the minute level. What matters in marketing is data and analysis. Tracking would definitely help in both the purposes. Initially I was reluctant about this as I was lazy. But now I track down CPC, CPL, CPA of every single campaign.

Never give up trying: The only way you can lose if you quit. So, never ever give up trying.

Believe in YOURSELF: This is probably the most important trait along with the first one. Believe in yourself. Remember, you can either perform to your beliefs or under perform to your beliefs but you can never over perform your beliefs. Believe in your abilities, believe in your work and believe in yourself.

One should mail the list twice every day. The morning e-mail can be about pure content and the evening one can be about a soft pitch of your opportunity. Many leads do not like to hit many times every day. This will help you to build a clear bond and make a lot more money for yourself.

Monetize your list: The formula says each lead is worth $1/ month. So, if someone has a list of 1000 leads then monthly income should be 1000*$1 = $1000/ month. But the key here is, effectively mailing the list without over doing it. It’s a good idea to send them affiliate offers via click bank, click sure to monetize the list as a secondary affiliate income.

Clean the list: It’s an important process to unsubscribe the unresponsive people from your list as each lead costs you money.

Be a giver first: Always share your knowledge and help people to learn from you rather than selling your opportunity bluntly.

Compelling title tag: Always have a compelling title tag for your article or blog post. Search engines like Google always gives importance to compelling title tags. Lot of marketers do insert keywords into title. Better way is to have a compelling title without thinking too much about keywords in the title. Let the search engines do it for you automatically.


Create multiple entries: Try to have multiple entries rank in the search result. Imagine having yourself ranked in the first 4 slots in Google for the company you promote. Throwing the dirty laundry: If we visit different forums or blogs on the internet, one common thing which we encounter is that a lot of people throw lot of negative comments. Why? Why Michael can never make it in online marketing

Michael came to me few months ago to learn online marketing and his immediate response was “I don’t have much time wait. I want to start making money online immediately.”

In reply I told him making money online is a process, it’s a learning curve which does n’t happen overnight. To explain my point further I gave him the example of cultivation. Cultivation is a process that involves various stages – preparing the soil, sowing the seeds, removing the weeds, nourishing it with manure and water, protecting it and waiting for the entire duration of the growth cycle of the crop.. until it is ready for harvesting. There is no way to cram the process. It is same with the learning curve when it comes to online marketing.

With effective teaching methods the time factor can be shrunk, but never eliminated. Mental development needs time, maturity needs time, growth needs time, learning needs time. Attempting to cram the whole process, seeking short cuts to development and quick-fix solutions may provide instant gratification, but never long term results.

Learning is a natural phenomenon and it has four stages:

Firstly, Unconscious Incompetence: I don’t know that I don’t know

Secondly, Conscious Incompetence: I know that I don’t know

Thirdly, Conscious Competence: I know that I know how to do this

Finally, Unconscious Competence: What I do, I do well

Sadly, Michael was not ready to go though these four stages of learning curve. That’s why he could never make it in online marketing.
